Well, here it is: the details of one of Paul McCarthy’s most iconic and historic installations, Bunkhouse (1996). Its first claim to fame came in 2000/01 when it featured in the Paul McCarthy retrospective at MOCA, LA and the New Museum, NY. I love this work. Not only is it a supreme example of McCarthy’s genius approach to exposing the dark underbelly of the American psyche and the Wild West, but it also has the ability to move any viewer. Literally set into motion — the ‘bunkhouse’ moves on a 20 meter-long railroad track, while the characters inside the house rotate and gyrate — Bunkhouse turns you into an active participant, a voyeur in a bygone era. Now we’re turning you into a voyeur of this work’s sale, dead or alive! Dimensions:
Bunkhouse: 242 cm x 350 x 355 cm. (95 1/4 x 137 3/4 x 139 3/4 in)

Electrical track: 19m. (748 in)
